U13s move into 2nd round of the cup
A great start to the season last night saw the U13s start their season with a win in the cup at Chalfont St Peter
A chilly evening which was a far cry from the idyllic summer evening of cricket, but the U13s overcame the weather to record a handsome win. The match did not start very well as having lost the toss and been asked to bat first we collapsed to 21-5 inside 5 overs. That brought James Davies
and Emily Brown
together in the middle and they set about rescuing the innings by playing sensibly, picking up singles and, as their confidence grew, punishing the bad balls. They were also helped by many extras. When James was bowled for 21 their partnership had added 87. On his debut for CLCC, Alexander Poole
(9 not out) added an aggressive impetus to the end of the innings. Emily also got involved hitting the last ball of the innings for a "shot of the day" drive over mid on for four and she finished on 26 not out and the CLCC total was 130-6.
The Chenies bowling was punctuated by too many wides and no balls, but skipper Mattie Brown
rotated his bowlers well to minimise the damage. Wickets fell regularly and, while there was some indifferent fielding, there were also good moments (Mattie's excellent catch and Henry's very good wicketkeeping in difficult conditions to name a couple). The pressure was built on the CSP batsmen and they fell short of the total by 27 runs to finish on 103-7. Notable bowling performances from Alex Koumi
(2-17) and, to seal her undisputed player of the match award, Emily (3-15).
Well done to the team - a very promising performance especially with so little practice so far this season.
