CHENIES INTO THE NEXT ROUND WITH AN EMPHATIC WIN
The U17's started the season with a brilliant display of fielding, bowling and batting to completely outplay Chalfont St Giles and progress into the next round of the cup where they will play the winners of Wendover and Great Kingshill.
With only 10 players and with poor light from the start, having lost the toss, CSG elected to bat. However Chenies were on top from the start with their openers totally bemused by the combination of the spin of Selvan from one end and the pace of Yuri from the other and by the end of the 4th over had been reduced to 13 for 3. The middle order steadied the CSG ship and took the score to 75 off 14 overs for the loss of just 2 more wickets to Dom and Selvan.
However that is when Alex got hold of the ball and in a hostile 2 over spell blew away the remaining wickets with figures of 4 FOR 1 IN 1.4 OVERS leaving CSG all out for 80.
In reply Louis and Alex opened the batting and whilst the light was deteriorating, Louis was soon in his stride, striking the ball to all corners of the ground and the total raced to 40 off just 6 overs against a good bowling attack. With Alex providing steady support, Louis continued to punish their bowlers and Chenies reached the winning total in the 13th over with Louis 62 n.o and Alex 12 n.o.
This was a well deserved win and whilst on the face of it, appears that the result was down to 2 or 3 players, this was most definitely a team performance with every player making a real contribution to the victory. From Andrew, Matthew, Ebriham and JJ in the field, to Selvan(2 for 20), Yuri(2 for 7) and Dom's(1for7) bowling and Paul's brilliant wicket keeping display, oh, and not forgetting Louis and Alex, this was a collective win with some outstanding individual performances and more importantly, played in the true spirit of cricket.
Well done guys.
