Louis Scores 111 But Still Suffer Defeat off Penultimate Ball
How can you score a 100 in Colts T20 match and end up on the losing side? Difficult I know but that's what happened to Louis P in the league game v Wendover.
Having won the Toss and elected to bat we got off to a slow start against a good bowling attack, accounting for Alex and Matthew leaving us 12 for 2 after 4 overs. Selvan joined Louis putting on a partnership of 40 and when Selvan was dismissed Louis was joined by Yuri. It was at this point that Louis started to find his range setting about their bowlers with some powerful hitting taking his score into 3 figures with a huge leg side 6. He was trapped lbw in the final over for a magnificent 111 with the team score closing on 143 for 6.
For the first 10 overs Wendover struggled to get runs on the board reaching just 52 for the loss of 3 wickets and victory for Chenies looked the most likely result. That is until their number 6 batter came to the crease and immediately started to middle the ball to all corners of the ground.
Suddenly it was game on and with only 9 players gaps in the field were most evident. Furthermore we were a recognised bowler short and it started to show. Whilst Yuri 2 for 12, Alex 1 for 22 and Selvan 1 for 26 had restricted the opposition suddenly runs were coming too easy and with 2 overs remaining Wendover required 21 for victory which they achieved with a 6 off the penultimate ball by their number 6 batter who finished on 54 n.o.
It was a great game of cricket which ebbed and flowed with the result in the balance until the final few balls. But it was a game we could have and, with 11 players would have, won. A big thank to Joe and Louis E for stepping in at the last minute and for combining to dismiss their number 1 batter.
Well done Louis, 111 from a total of 143 is quite remarkable and for the record included 8 sixes and 9 fours.
