Lady Taverners Tournament June 2016

Chenies U11 Girls enjoy great day of Girls' Cricket!

The Lady Taverners U11 Girls' tournament took place at Chesham Prep School on Sunday 19th. What a great day it turned out to be, 7 Girls' Teams took part from around the County and the atmosphere was brilliant! We had an intrepid group of 8 girls at the start, with Caitlin and Evie arriving mid morning to replace Poppy, Phoebe and Lois who had to leave us before the end.
We were in a group with Amersham and Wycombe, Buckland and Aston Clinton and Gerrards Cross. The girls played some fantastic cricket and even the Umpire praised them on their improvements gained through each match. We put up a good fight against Amersham and Wycombe (eventual Tournament Champions) under Captain Sophia Davies, narrowly losing but not before we had seen some great positive Bowling from Eloise, Sophia, Daisy, Poppy and Louisa. With a bit of coaching at the crease from the Umpire Crissy, Lois and Phoebe were also showing great skill, which just got better with each Bowl and each match. Run rate was a bit low in the first match, but it wasn't long before the girls got the idea of the quick single! Our second match was Captained by Daisy and saw us beating Gerrards Cross with some great Batting and fielding from Sophia in particular! By the third match against Buckland and Aston Clinton we had begun to hone our Fielding skills and the girls were really working together calling out and backing up. By popular demand this game was Captained by our youngest player, Louisa!
Having come 3rd in our group we were placed against Beaconsfield for our Final. Sadly at this stage we had 2 injured players, Sophia who had collided with a badly positioned bench and Eloise wo had hurt a finger! Thanks to Anna and Jeannette for taking care of them with ice packs and kind words! Beaconsfield lent us 2 Fielders and Daisy and Evie both got to Bat twice. We came a strong second place in this match which the injured Eloise bravely Captained.
Champagne moments of the tournament came from Poppy with a wonderful Catch that ricocheted from her fingers only for her to watch it carefully and catch it second time, and from Louisa with a well held high catch in the field. There were great wickets from Caitlin, Sophia, Daisy, Eloise and tremendous fielding all round.
Really proud of all the girls as they continue to learn and develop, but most of all to watch their love of the game and sheer enjoyment of working together as a team!
