Welcome to this week’s summary of all the news from around the club over the past 7 days

The 1st XI travelled to Harefield with the intention of re-acquiring the winning habit. Things started well as having been asked to field first Dave Brown and Steve Hallam reduced the Harefield line up to 60-5. However, dropped catches and some expansive hitting from the home side’s lower middle order allowed them to get up to 206 before they were bowled out. Dave Brown (17-3-50-5) recorded a 5 wicket haul, backed up by 2 wickets apiece from Steve Hallam and Toqeer Butt. An appalling batting display then ensued as Chenies’ batters struggled on the difficult surface, but only Waqas Kiani (29) and Vid Mayadunne (31) attempted to apply themselves to the challenge, and Chenies were dismissed for 118 in 36 overs

The 2nd XI hosted Cookham Dean on Saturday. This game was also lost through an appalling batting performance. Only Stuart Silk, who was unlucky to be out, and a 52 run ninth wicket partnership by Max Higginbotham and Brian Shipley allowed the 2s to get to 104 and give any hope at all if they bowled and fielded at the top of their game. They then delivered something close to that and with a restrictive spell from Max H, 3 wickets from each of Alex Walker and Brian S and aggressive support from Tom Horsburgh 8 Cookham wickets were taken and the game went all the way to the final over before the visitors snuck over the line. A real credible fight back from a near impossible position at 46-8 in our innings!

The Sunday XI restored some club pride with a fine win at home versus Uxbridge Casuals. The visitors batted first and Alex Walker removed both openers, clean bowled. But then the visitors began to re-build and then stepped up the run rate with some aggressive hitting. The impetus was halted by Emily Brown’s introduction to the bowling attack – her 8 overs cost only 26 runs and she took 3 wickets. A wicket each for Ronald Eltringham and Ian Gilmour plus 1 more for Alex Walker kept the Uxbridge innings under control and their 40 overs eventually produced 215-8. Skipper Mike Pickard and Alex Walker opened up the chase briskly. Alex made 10 before he was dismissed and Mike was joined by Ronald Eltringham. They put on 128 together before Ronald was out for 69. Mike continued going and was supported by 19 from Ian Gilmour and the 6 wicket win was completed with 6 overs to spare, with Mike carrying his bat for a well deserved century.

Next week the 1st XI entertain OMT and the 2s visit Ruislip. There is no scheduled game for the Sunday XI but we are going to attempt to find an opposition.

Colts Matches:

Tue 18 Jun – U11 v Beaconsfield (A) – no report received

Wed 19 Jun – U14 Girls v Beaconsfield (A) – cancelled due to rain

On Thursday the U15s visited Holmer Green. The home side won the toss and surprisingly chose to bat on a very damp track. An excellent fielding and bowling performance saw the hosts bowled out for 48 in 14 overs. The wickets were shared among James Haria (3), 2 each for Alexander Poole and Marley Tarrant and 1 each for Lily Jones, Emily Brown and Amelia Peck. Special mention must also go to Anish Vaddiraju for his brilliant catch and to Henry James for conceding zero byes for the 2nd consecutive match. Chenies completed the chase for the loss of just 4 wickets. Aidan Taylor carried his bat for 9 not out and Amelia Peck top scored with 16 with Henry James also contributing with 11.

Fri 21 Jun – U13 v Chalfont St Peter (H) – no report received.

On Friday the U9 Tigers visited Beaconsfield. Overall, it was a great performance from the boys. The final score was Beaconsfied 226-8 and Chenies scored 376-0 to give Chenies the win by 150 runs. That is now 4 wins from 4 in the U9 South East League, so just one game away from winning the league! The batting was excellent, with the calling between wickets very good in particular. Amazing to not lose a single wicket! The fielding was also excellent with William taking a brilliant catch as wicket-keeper, Spencer hitting the stumps from a tight angle leading to a run out and Avi also taking a good catch. The pick of the batsmen were William Herring and Joseph Sear (23 runs each); and Reyan Patel and Spencer Guthrie (12 runs each) and the pick of the bowlers were Aaran Amin (1 for 0) and William Herring (3 for 5).

On Saturday morning the U9 Lions entertained Gerrards Cross and our very own County Champions completed their 'Invincibles' U9 season with a win by 116 runs to make it 6 wins from 6 in the U9 Premier League! Chenies were asked to bat first and scored 298- 4. Our top batters were Jeevan Brar with 21 runs, Aarav Majithia with 13 runs and Frank Harrop with 10 runs. Aarav hit the only six of the match with a pull shot that landed right on the rope. The running between the wickets was excellent and there were no run-outs against us. GX scored 182-11. Jeevan was our leading bowler with 2 for 1 from his 2 overs, with Frank Harrop taking 2 for 9 and both James Henderson and Aarav taking 1 for 4 from their 2 overs. The Gerrards Cross innings started with 3 identical overs from Harry Neal, Oscar Knight and Frank Harrop that all went for 2 runs and had a wicket off the 5th ball of each over! The fielding was excellent again with both Aarav and Oscar being sharp in the field to swoop and get the ball into Jeevan behind the stumps for him to smartly run-out the opposition batsmen trying to take quick singles. A top team performance from an amazing team of champions!
