We learnt last week of the sad passing of Vidurath Mayadunne (Vid to all his colleagues & Friends) on the 4th March after being Diagnosed with MND in October 2023. He was just 59.
Vid played at Chenies for almost 20 years, initially on Sundays as a bowling allrounder, then transitioning into Saturday league cricket where he became a flamboyant batsman in both the 2nd XI and 1st XI. Overall, he played 222 games scoring 4,282 runs with 2 centuries & 19 fifties and took 81 wickets.
Vid was a consultant physician at Wexham Park hospital and many of you will remember he played several matches alongside his son Charith who is currently in his fourth year of Medicine in Essex.
Our sympathies as a club go to Charith, his sister and mother for this sad loss and as a club, we will honor Vid with a moments silence by all 3 teams before the first league match on the 11th May and fly the flag at half-mast over the entire weekend.
Vid was a cricketing gentleman who played the game in style and in the right spirit. He made many friends at Chenies and Latimer and will be sadly missed.
