Pre season update from our Chairman, John Whitworth

Dear Member,
The new season is upon us despite the weather, so time for a few thoughts and some news.
Among the suggestions from Members at the AGM was one, to hold the AGM in April before the season starts and another that job descriptions for committee positions are provided to Members. The date for the AGM was considered by the committee but as the league and cricket boards require details of our officers well before the season starts it was decided that to have the meeting in April was not possible. We will provide job descriptions before the next AGM.
We still have vacancies on the committee, most importantly for a pavilion manager and a bar manager. In order that we may have the bar open as much as possible Stephanie Ince has kindly agreed to run a bar rota for us. You should shortly receive a message requesting your availability for bar duty and it would help the club if you could respond positively!
Colts registration took place last Sunday when over eighty colts registered and there are several more to come in the older age groups. We are running our first ever all girls team and four managers have gone on coaching courses which will improve the quality of the coaching. Our thanks to John Campbell and all his coaches for their hard work in running the Colts section.
In the senior section, the 1st XI embark upon the season in division 2 of the Thames Valley League after their successful promotion season last year, so we wish them luck in rising to the challenge and we wish all teams the best for a successful season. We have 3 new captains. We would like to thank the outgoing captains Andrew Chapman, Max Higginbotham and Colin Bedford for their service and we wish their replacements; Chris May for the 1st XI, Nick Holden for the Saturday 2nd XI and Mike Pickard for the Sunday 2nd XI all the best for the season – please give them all the support that you can.
Some of you may have heard that we have agreed to host our first International match. This is to be a 50 over game between Tanzania and the C.C.C. on Tuesday 17th May, so if you can make it please come along.
Have a good season.
John Whitworth, Chairman
