Chenies & Latimer Lions (U7s) win the Marlow Big Bash Tournament!

2 months ago By Ragveer Brar

What a great performance from the boys!

Tournament report by Ragveer Brar (coach & manager of the U7s)

The Big Bash is a tournament run for U7, U8 and U9 year groups. There were 8 teams entered in the U7 age group and these were split into 2 groups of 4 playing 6-a-side 6 over matches and the winners of each group would contest the final.

The group results were as follows:

C&L (50 runs) bt Beaconsfield 2 (19 runs)
A good solid all-round team effort by the boys, with Luca almost hitting a six!

C&L (51 runs) bt Marlow (-23 runs) (yes , minus because it is -5 runs for each wicket)
This match was notable for some outstanding fielding from the whole team (including a direct hit from Spencer) that led to 7 run outs! Jeevan also picked up the teams first wicket that wasn't from a run-out.

C&L (48 runs) bt Wargrave (9 runs)
This was another solid team effort, notable for Spencer bowling the first maiden of the tournament for us. Frank and Jeevan had both nearly done that with 5 dot balls each in their overs, with Jeevan also picking up our second (non run-out) wicket of the tournament.

Final
C&L (30 runs) bt Beaconsfield 1 (12 runs)

Having won all 3 group games we were looking forward to the final against a Beaconsfield side that had also won all 3 of their group games, so a tough final beckoned.

We were put into bat and Joseph got us off to a fast start (as he did throughout the tournament) with a couple of boundaries. Against some very good bowling the boys managed to keep ticking over, with the standout moment coming when Jeevan lofted Beaconsfield's leading bowler back over his head for a straight boundary. The boys reached 30 off the 6 overs thanks to a couple of momentum changing boundary hits from Ben towards the end of the innings.

Beaconsfield then had a good start to their innings with 10 runs coming off the first over so the pressure was on. Luca pulled it back well with a nonchalant caught and bowled in the second over. Jospeh and Alex then kept the pressure on with a couple of overs that yielded 13 runs but we managed to get another run out as well, so the -5 runs for a wicket was helping. It was still anyone's game however as the opposition sent in their leading batsmen for the final push. Jeevan came on to bowl the penultimate over and bowled a superb wicket maiden that all but sealed victory, and then Frank closed the innings out with another great over that had 5 dot balls.

We had an awesome team with Jeevan Brar, Frank Harrop, Joseph Sear, Spencer Guthrie, Ben Mills, Alex Maycock and Luca Witton - great performances from everyone and they stood up really well to some pressure in the final - couldn't be prouder of all of the boys!

Tournament stats were as follows:

Run-outs not included, although we got 9 run outs so there was some great fielding.
