The editor is delighted to report that despite being on holiday, he has not missed a game! This is because Tring Park were unable to raise a team and forfeited Saturday’s match against our 1st XI. Chenies therefore picked up maximum points and with Hayes losing to Datchet, the lead at the top of the table is now 35 points with just 4 matches to play.

The twos had a good win against bottom of the table Kew. 95 not out from Mike Pickard ably supported by Brian Shipley (27) and Bill Mead (25) took us to 208-5. A fine start had Kew 26-3 from 11 then 67-5 from 18. Stands of 50 and 27 for the 6th and 7th wickets briefly threatened to derail us with their dangerous skipper making his way to 73 before he became the first victim of a Brian Shipley hat trick taking us to a 51 run victory. Oh and today we caught almost every catch!

The Sunday XI had their second win of the season in a home game against Wembley CC. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat and then probably rued the decision as they struggled to score against some tight bowling. Mark Rogers had a good afternoon taking 3 for 7 off 8 overs. He was well supported by Nick Walker bowling 2 for 20 off 8 overs. Wembley finished on a modest 139 for 7 off 40 overs. Chenies looked well set to ease home comfortably after an opening stand of 54 between Charlie Anderson (35) and John Moffit (13). Then we lost a couple of quick wickets and Wembley sensed they might be able to fashion an upset. In came Brian Shipley (23) and Mike Pickard (31 not out) to steady the ship and we reached the target for the loss of 5 wickets off 28 overs.

Next week the 1st XI travel to Hayes for a ‘top of the table’ clash and the 2nd XI host NPL. The Sunday XI have a home match against The Outlaws (watch out for Friar Tuck opening the bowling and our boundaries may not be large enough to contain Little John’s aggressive strokeplay)
