The league begun this week with a win for the 1st XI, but losses for the 2s and 3s

The 1st XI travelled to Slough. The home side won the toss and put Chenies into bat. In slow scoring conditions, Steffan Bartlett and Alex Martin dug in and got the innings off to a good start scoring 82 before Steffan fell for 38. Alex Martin continued to anchor the innings before falling for a well made 87. Josh Morgan then upped the rate with a brutal 79* off 41 balls including 7 sixes, taking Chenies up to 266. Chenies started well with the ball, restricting Slough early on. Richie Parker (1 wicket for 19 runs) and Josh Morgan (4 wickets) were the pick of the bowlers and helped to restrict Slough to 242 all out.

Back at the CCG, the 2nd XI entertained Uxbridge 4s who won the toss and chose to have a bat. Good bowling, including from youngsters Aayush Mehta (2 wickets) and Ayan Patel, kept the visiting batters at bay, but some late innings generosity from the home side saw Uxbridge able to get to 221 from their 40 overs. The Chenies openers started well with Ravi Sainini making 28 and Bill Mead, 43. Rahul Gahlot, on his debut, scored 51 and Kiran Vadlamani added 27*, but Chenies fell 31 runs short.

The 3rd XI started their season with a home game against Ickenham 5s. The home side, upon winning the toss, decided to bat first. Despite tight bowling by opposition bowlers and a tricky pitch to navigate for the openers, a steady start enabled Chenies to reach 100 for 3 wickets at the first drinks break and looking solid to achieve all batting points. Tushar Gajjar had a good first of the season knock before he fell at 29 and then a sudden and unexpected collapse helped by low bounce lead to the team being bowled out for 130. The bowlers showed spirit by defending the low total by taking early wickets and keeping the scoring at bay until the 25th over. Exceptional performance by Harsh Patel taking 4 wickets and conceding only 23 runs. The fielders demonstrated exceptional defence in the field by protecting runs and putting pressure on the guests before some chancy batting by their lower order led them to a narrow victory.

There was no Sunday game this week due to a lack of availability.

The Women Super 8s had their inaugural matches on Sunday hosting Tring and Abbots Langley. In the first match they faced the very young side of Tring Park. Chenies won the toss and chose to bat. The first pair of Vibhuti and Gayana got the side off to a great start scoring 20 runs. The second pair of Bindi and Sophie consolidated this score without losing a wicket. The last 2 pairs batted well to give us a respectable net score of 253. Chenies then went in to bowl and despite the fact that this was the first time half of the team had ever bowled in a competitive match, we managed to restrict the opposition to 273. Overall we were beaten by the fact that the younger legs of the opposition managed to run a fair few more singles than we did! They then faced Abbots Langly in their second match of the day. After being put into bat, the first 2 pairs, Gayana and Vibuti, and Lili and Georgina faced the bowlers brutal attack, with Abbots Langly using their best 2 bowlers for the first 8 overs. Despite this, the ladies played magnificently putting us in a good position half way. Anna and Phillipa did not lose any wickets and with a lot of extras being bowled in these 4 overs we were in quite a good position going into the final pair. The final pairing of Bindi and Sophie knocked it out the park and we ended up on 272, a great improvement on the first score. Our fielding started off brilliantly with a direct hit run out from Gayana and then Vibhuti, Bindi and Gayana all took wickets. Sadly we were beaten by 9 runs in the end as the opening bowlers also proved to be very handy batsmen. Room for improvement but so much promise for the rest of the season. Huge thanks to Simon for scoring and running the bar and to Alex for helping him. Also thanks to our fantastic coach Amelia for supporting us and umpiring both games.

Next week the 1st XI are at home against Hillingdon Manor 2nd XI, the 2nd XI travel to play High Wycombe 5s. The 3rd XI have a free week. On Sunday the Sunday XI entertain The Stage and the Women Super 8 side travel to play High Wycombe and Dunstable.

They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Watch this space for further details.
