The Blue & Gold Bulletin - 19 July

All the news from around the club

The 1st XI drew a rain affected match at home against Marlow 2s. The visitors won the toss and elected to field, but 3 overs later everyone was back in the pavilion due to a deluge from the skies. 2 hours later play resumed with the match reduced to a 40/36 over contest. At this stage the win for the home side was elusive as taking 10 wickets in 36 overs on a Chenies pitch is not likely. So the focus was to maximise batting points. But this looked unlikely as before long the score was 37-4. Roshan Dias (71) and Mattie Brown (33) rescued the situation with a 99 run partnership, but then we slipped to 148-8 before Ronald Eltringham (29*) and Richard Parker (28*) put on 53 for an unbroken 9th wicket partnership to take Chenies to 201-8 and maximum batting points from their 40 overs. The Marlow batters set off in aggressive fashion to chase down the target, but good bowling kept them just behind the run rate. In the middle overs they appeared to settle for the draw, but with wickets in hand they launched another attack in the last 10 overs but ultimately came up 10 runs short.

The 2nd XI travelled to a wind-swept ground at Uxbridge. Skipper lost yet another toss and surprise, surprise, we were inserted. The pitch proved to be extremely difficult to bat on due to the wet weather prior to the match. We managed to score 161 with a very good innings again by Jeevan Brar (63 not out batting for the full 40 overs) and a cameo from Steve Hallam contributing 27. Remarkably, there was no rain at all throughout the game, but the wind caused a short stoppage because it was impossible to play in. The wind also benefitted the home side, drying out the pitch so that in the 2nd half of the game batting was much easier and the home side cruised past our total inside 36 overs. It was great to have 3 of our U13 side (Jeevan, Neil Chahal and Oscar Knight) playing and to hear the banter between them, with all three putting in a performance and hopefully many more to come .

The 3rd XI fell short of a rain-affected run chase against Chesham 4s, in spite of a spirited half-century from Luke Marsden - his first for the club. After electing to field, the first innings ground to a halt at the end of the fourth over thanks to a heavy downpour. After a two-hour delay, the game was reduced to 25 overs a side. The wet weather made progress awkward for both sides but James Louw (2-16) was excellent, and Vivek Gulati took 2-10 on debut. Five players held catches, while Jon Goddard claimed a run out before Chesham managed a decent total of 132. In reply, Chenies started well but tight bowling and a damp outfield slowed the chase considerably. Luke anchored the innings, ably supported by Ravi Sainani (22) and Jon (19) but Chenies were unable to keep up and fell 17 runs short on 110-5 in their 25 overs.

On Sunday the Women faced Beaconsfield CC at Chenies. Despite heavy showers at the start of the weekend, rain did not stop play for the ladies. The team included debutants Nico Rai and Evie Killigrew who were a great addition to the team. Chenies bowled the first innings. Beaconsfield had a very strong first batter (who proceeded to play the whole innings for 148*) which confirmed our prediction of a challenging game ahead. However we had a great team of fielders supported by excellent wicket keeping by Caitlin Walker. Beaconsfield really kept us on our toes, taking every opportunity to get runs in. But despite the first batter’s strong run rate, the proceeding batters were less successful and defeated by a strong bowling attack from Chenies. We saw some beautiful bowling from Nico and Gill Braddock and much needed wicket balls by Emma Braddock, Evie, Shayna Patel and Samiha Bajpayee. However we were left with a very high number of runs to catch after the first innings with Beaconsfield finishing on a total of 227 runs. In the second innings, our openers Samiha and Emma brought some great initial energy to the chase. We unfortunately lost Emma early on. Samiha was building up runs nicely but this was sadly cut short when she was caught out. Nico and Caitlin proceeded to keep the positive energy up but their time on the field was also intercepted with Caitlin being caught out. Shayna followed and picked up some great runs but was also bowled out. Anna came into the crease and gave a great effort playing almost to the end alongside Gayana Gallege, Evie, and Gill who all played well but were successively bowled out. Philippa Hallam was then also victim of a catch, and Georgina Barnett joined Anna to play to finish. The game was brought to an end when Anna was the last to be bowled out leaving Chenies with a final score of 52.

The Women’s game was followed by a men’s T20 against Mill Hill Village, but while the rain held off for the ladies, the men were not so lucky. Chenies did manage to bat their innings, scoring 111-9 with Ian Gilmour top scoring with 28. But only 1 and a half overs were possible of the 2nd innings before a downpour halted proceedings.

Next week the 1st XI are away against Chesham 3s, the 2nd XI host Ickenham 4s and the 3rd XI are at home against Chalfont St Peter 3s. On Sunday the Women have a week off and the Sun XI are at home versus Chesham Bois.

Chenies & Latimer U10 Tornados v Holmer Green U10's - Holmer Green won the toss and elected to bat. Our opening bowlers, Austin and Rahul started well and with Austin only conceded 3 runs from his 2 overs but their opening batters racked up 25 runs but with Austin and Rahul taking a wicket a piece. Our next bowlers were Manuth and Dhani who both bowled a good line and length and although they didnt take any wickets, they restricted the batters to just 10 runs from their 4 overs. Shreyank and Louie were next to bowl and although Louie took a wicket Holmer batters added some 33 runs. Garv and Daniel concluded the bowling against their best batsmen and a further 24 runs were added without losing any further wickets. Disappointingly we conceded 19 wides which gave Holmer Green an impressive score of 286 for the loss of just 3 wickets. However it was a gettable score and the players were determined to give it their best shot. Austin and Rahul opened the batting and got us of to a good start scoring 24 runs but unfortunately losing 2 wickets. Shreyank and Manuth followed and also added 24 runs but again losing 2 wickets in the process. They were followed by Louie and Dhani and they added 34 runs but at a cost of 4 wickets. This left our final pair of Daniel and Garv with the near impossible task of scoring some 50 runs of the final 4 overs and against their star bowler. Between them they added an impressive 33 runs only losing 1 wicket and finished 27 runs short with a respectable score of 258 for the loss of 8 wickets. Overall this was not our best effort although there were some excellent individual performances from everyone especially the bowling of Manuth and Dhani, the batting of Daniel and Louie and the fielding of Austin. Roll on Tuesday when we hope to reverse the result in the return match at Holmer Green.

U8s (U9 Heat) Season Summary – We played in the U9 south division 2. The team comprising of U8 and U7s played in south division 2 against other team who fielded mainly U9s. Across the 10 matches we played we won 3 and we narrowly lost on 2 other occasions. Over the course of the season we rotated 21 players in these matches. Coach Ravi has been really impressed with the skills, agility and perseverance of the team, and is convinced we will go on to achieve big things with this group. Training will continue in the summer every Sundays 9:30 am with a few friendlies hopefully to be organised.

Teas / coffees and cakes will be on sale every Sunday morning in the pavilion. All cakes are home-made by Emily Brown and all proceeds will go directly to the club. Date for your diary - C&LCC Golf Day - Friday 29th September. More details to follow.

6-a-side competition. Last year we ran a really successful 6-aside intra club tournament so propose to run a similar contest this year on the August Bank Holiday Monday (28th August). Last year it featured teams of varying ability, with a couple of family teams and players all throughout the club with largely mixed teams of reasonably similar ability but for safety reasons participants should be no younger than the under 13’s group. The bar will be open, from noon till close with a BBQ in the evening and fingers crossed the weather will be great. If you are interested please let us know and even better if you would like to submit a team of 6, then feel free! The only selection rules are:
• you must have at least one woman
• at least one U15 player
• No team with more than 2 players who’ve represented the club at 1st XI in the TVL and no more than 3 from 1st or 2nd XI.
Teams finding it impossible to comply with the above may be subject to a (severe) handicap. Anyone who would like to play but not included in a team of six can be added to or selected into teams of roughly even ability so please don’t hold back making yourself available – its intended to be a fun day with lots of laughs and highly embarrassing moments for the (supposedly) better players; and if you’ve friends or families interested in joining in then please bring them and we’ll get them involved. So either update your availability on Pitchero or email alexgwalker84@gmail.com or text on 07746949617 to register your interest in partaking! I look forward to hearing from everyone, Alex Walker.

Subscriptions for the 2023 season are now due. Many thanks to those that have already paid. A full guide to the subscriptions process can be found here Some people have reported problems paying, especially via the Pitchero app. This has been looked into by Pitchero and a fix has been put in place. Please do try again.
