The Blue & Gold Bulletin - 2 Aug

Updates from around the club

The 1st XI enjoyed the better of a draw at home to Burnham. The visitors won the toss and invited the hosts to bat first. Alex Martin provided the spine to the innings with 79, ably supported by Stefan Saleem (35), Yatin Sampat (40), Ateeq Mohammed (39*) and Mattie Brown (28*), and Chenies declared after 50 overs on 250-5. On an excellent batting track, wickets proved hard to come by. Superb run outs by Ateeq and Mattie helped but the bowlers could only prise out another 4 wickets and the visitors ended on 199-6.

The 2nd XI suffered a huge away defeat at the expense of the runaway division leaders, Wraysbury 3s. The home side batted first and courtesy of 2 centurions, posted a mammoth 302-2. Despite 61 from Mike Pickard and 47 from Ian Gilmour, Chenies could not even make it half way to the target and were bowled out for 150.

The 3rd XI were in a strong position half way through the first innings, at 86-3 (Dhruv Desai 37, Ashish Mehta 35) but then subsided to 155 all out. The second innings did not go our way either as, despite 3-16 from Dhruv, Ickenham cruised to victory with 5 overs and 5 wickets to spare.

Sunday was a rain affected day. Firstly the Women were at home against Oxford, but only 15 overs were possible. At this point the visitors had reached 59-2 but the rain set in resulting in the game being abandoned.

The rain continued and forced the cancellation of the mens T20.

Next week the 1st XI travel to Slough 3s, the 2nd XI host Hounslow and Whitton and the 3rd XI are at home against OMT 4s. On Sunday the Women travel to Cookham Dean and the Sunday XI are at home against Uxbridge Casuals.

Last Thursday, the U13s played in the London and SE finals day (the last 16 and quarter final of the national competition). They won their semi final in the morning, but came up just short in the final in the afternoon. But massive congratulations to the players and their coach, Raj Brar. To have reached the last 8 in a national competition (1400 clubs entered) is a huge achievement. Read full details of the day here

Further success for our U13A team, this time in the county cup. We welcomed Bledlow Ridge for the U13 County Cup quarter final. Bledlow Ridge won the toss and elected to field first in damp conditions. The Bledlow bowlers bowled excellently in helpful conditions as our top order struggled. Only captain Jeevan Brar (26no from 25 balls before retiring) and Neil Chahal (12 from 12) reached double figures from our top 7 batters. Tommy Bird (19no from 21), on debut for the U13A side, and Nishesh Parekh (13 from 17) then put on a lower order partnership to get us to 119/7 from 20 overs to set a target of 120. Our bowlers made life similarly difficult for the opposition batters - Harry Neal (2/14 from 3); Neil (1/9 from 3); Nishesh (1/10 from 2); Noa Fonseka (1/9 from 3); Amogh Amresh (2/17 from 3); and Oscar Knight (0/15 from 2) all did a great job but Rafe Alibhai (3/4 from 3) was the pick of our bowlers. They were well supported in the field as we restricted Bledlow to 83ao from 19 overs for a comfortable 36 run victory which sees us progress to the county cup semi-final.

Teas / coffees and cakes will be on sale every Sunday morning in the pavilion. All cakes are home-made by Emily Brown and all proceeds will go directly to the club. We have a card payment machine so please do avail yourself of the fayre on sale, and save yourself the trip to the coffee shop on the way to the club.

In other news:
Last year we ran a really successful 6-aside intra club tournament so propose to run a similar contest this year on the August Bank Holiday Monday (28th August). Last year it featured teams of varying ability, with a couple of family teams and players all throughout the club with largely mixed teams of reasonably similar ability but for safety reasons participants should be no younger than the under 13’s group. The bar will be open, from noon till close with a BBQ in the evening and fingers crossed the weather will be great. If you are interested please let us know and even better if you would like to submit a team of 6, then feel free! The only selection rules are:
• you must have at least one woman
• at least one U15 player
• No team with more than 2 players who’ve represented the club at 1st XI in the TVL and no more than 3 from 1st or 2nd XI.
Teams finding it impossible to comply with the above may be subject to a (severe) handicap. Anyone who would like to play but not included in a team of six can be added to or selected into teams of roughly even ability so please don’t hold back making yourself available – its intended to be a fun day with lots of laughs and highly embarrassing moments for the (supposedly) better players; and if you’ve friends or families interested in joining in then please bring them and we’ll get them involved. So either update your availability on Pitchero or email alexgwalker84@gmail.com or text on 07746949617 to register your interest in partaking! I look forward to hearing from everyone, Alex Walker.

Subscriptions for the 2023 season are now due. Many thanks to those that have already paid. A full guide to the subscriptions process can be found here Some people have reported problems paying, especially via the Pitchero app. This has been looked into by Pitchero and a fix has been put in place. Please do try again.
