On Saturday, Chenies welcomed Hillingdon Manor 2nd XI to the CCG. The visitors won the toss and decided that the hosts should set a target, and regretted it as Chenies amassed a huge 323-6. The Stefans (Bartlett and Saleem) got the innings off to a strong start with an opening partnership of 179 before Stefan Saleem fell for a well-made 117. Stefan Bartlett went on to make 55 before falling. Josh Morgan had another good weekend with the bat scoring 68 off of 40 balls. Deepesh Patel made a strong contribution on his debut for Chenies scoring 39 not out. Alex Walker picked up the first wicket with the ball, bowling the Hillingdon Manor opener with a slow full toss, but the visitors made a good fist of the chase, keeping up with the run rate, but wickets fell regularly and they ran out of batters on 268 with 5 overs remaining. Wickets were shared around with Ateeq Mohammed taking 4, Alex Walker taking 3, Josh Morgan with 2 and Richard Parker with 1. An excellent batting performance backed up with a strong bowling performance.
The 2nd XI travelled to Thame to play High Wycombe 5s, a neutral venue due to Wycombe’s home ground being not yet fit to use after the very wet weather throughout March and April. Chenies won the toss and decided to bowl first as neither side knew how the pitch would play. High Wycombe scored 211 for 5 off 40 overs, with the bowling generally good and the fielding better than last week. With a strong batting line up Chenies were optimistic, but were quickly reduced to 27 -4 in the first ten overs and that left a mountain to climb. A good stand between Kiran Vadlamani (22) and Mattie Brown (78) brought us back into the game, but we were behind the scoring rate and struggled to chase the winning score. A disappointment, but the side will improve as we get further into the season .
The 3rd XI had a week off due to there being an odd number of sides in their division.
We welcomed The Stage on Sunday under a blue sky and warm sunshine for a traditional timed game. The Stage invited C&LCC to bat. Alex Martin and Dan Lazyzell opened the batting and quickly came under pressure from some excellent bowling. On a track that had yielded over 600 runs the day before runs were hard to come by with both batters having to be very watchful. Alex topped scored with a very accomplished 84 while only Bharat Bhushan (12) on debut and Brian Shipley (14) made double figures as C&LCC were bowled out for 152 in just 31.2 overs. Unfortunately, our bowling was not up to the task on the day with only Brian Shipley (5 overs, 1 for 12) and Fred Rodwell on debut (5 overs, 0 for 20) being able to control the fast-scoring Stage batters. The Stage chased the score down in just 24.4 overs.
The Women Super 8s travelled to Dunstable. They narrowly lost the first match against High Wycombe but then defeated the hosts to secure their first win in the competition. Congratulations.
Next week the 1st XI visit High Wycombe 3s. The 2nd XI are at home against Ickenham 4s and the 3rd XI host Uxbridge 5s. On Sunday the Sunday XI entertain The Thames Valley Ramblers.

For a few years our bar has been in decline. In order to drive greater use of the bar and to revive the social scene at the club we have partnered with a local company called Beer Nuts (previously proprietors of the craft beer establishment in Little Chalfont). They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Watch this space for further details.
