This week we’ll start with Sunday’s matches:
On a rather hot first day of September, Chenies Women took the long trip to Deddington. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. Trusty Emma and Ruby opened the bowling, quickly reducing the home team to 7-4 with Emma getting 3 wickets across her opening spell and only going for 5 runs, and Ruby contributed a wicket and kept the other end tight, keeping pressure. Shayna was then brought on at first-change, but did not like the end she was bowling at, forcing skipper Emily to bowl a ‘filler over’ so Shayna could have her preferred end, and it worked with her pace being too much for the opposition and she got us a wicket, and kept the run rate low with her next 5 overs. Gurleen got a couple of wickets thanks to the phenomenal catching of Emily at short cover and Sophie at mid-on. At drinks Deddington were on 50-8. The bowling attack never let up, and in came Gill Braddock who trapped two batters in the crease and got two LBW calls, within 2 overs, leaving us to chase 52. On a slow wicket, with some very unique bowling actions we got off to a solid start with Sophie and Aarushe opening. A few wickets in quick succession left us on 23-5 and under a bit of pressure. But in came skipper Emily and Shayna, who both played phenomenal innings to weather the storm and chase down the total before we even made it to drinks. Another emphatic win for the ladies.
At home the Sunday XI welcomed The Full Tossers, who batted first and compiled an imposing total of 285-6. ‘Too many’ said some, and it was, but only 10 too many! Thanks to a destructive 180 (from just 127 balls) from Roshan Dias, Chenies got so close but came up just short at 275-6.
The Saturday plaudits go to the 2nd XI who travelled to high flyers Burnham 4s. The home side elected to bat but were bowled out for 181 thanks to a much improved performance in the field. Trup Bhalsod, Ian Gilmour and Ayan Patel claimed 2 wickets apiece and Anosh Mahawaduge got 4. The chase was completed inside 28 overs with most of the work done by the opening partnership. Ravi Sainani scored 47 and Rahul Gahlot scored 94.
Back at the CCG, the 1st XI suffered a bad day at the office against Chesham 3s. Chenies were asked to bat first and were skittled for 104 with only Stefan Bartlett (23) and Ateeq Mohammed (41) able to put up any resistance. In reply the visitors raced to the target for the loss of just one wicket.
Chesham completed a double over us, with their 4th XI defeating our 3s. Our batting was dominated by Sarthak Panvelkar (52) and Harsh Patel (30), but we were dismissed for just 134 and Chesham lost 5 wickets while making light work of the chase in just 27 overs. Skipper Gaurav Mehta was our leading bowler taking 3-34.
Next week the league completes with the 1st XI travelling to Cookham Dean 2s, the 2nd XI hosting Gerrards Cross 3s and the 3rd XI play Chesham again, but this time their 5s. On Sunday the Women’s league completes with a home game against Slough and the Sunday XI have a game away at Hawridge & Cholesbury.

For a few years our bar has been in decline. In order to drive greater use of the bar and to revive the social scene at the club we have partnered with a local company called Beer Nuts (previously proprietors of the craft beer establishment in Little Chalfont). They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
An intra club Fantasy Cricket game has been set up by Alex Walker. These are great fun – you just pick a team of 6 from the club’s players and see how their points rack up for your team based upon performances. Entry is just £5. Go to http://chenies-latimer.fantasyclubcricket.co.uk/. The prices of players are based SOLELY off of last year’s performance in league games , irrespective of which team you are in. This means there are some bargains. Player prices will change each week based on form and anyone not in the database yet will be added automatically once they play a league game.
