Greetings from the poolside in sunny Gran Canaria! Welcome to this week’s summary of all the news from around the club over the past 7 days.

The 1st XI visited Hillingdon Manor buoyed by the news that even before the game the lead at the top of the table had been extended to 27 points courtesy of a 15 point penalty imposed on Hayes due to them an ineligible player a couple of weeks ago. So upon winning the toss, Chenies batted first. Ateeq Mohammed (42), Ronald Eltringham (23), Majib Rehman (49) and Harry Dahiya (59) were the main contributors to a total of 220. So, 10 wickets needed to secure another win… we got 15 or 16, but apparently only 9 (3 each for Roger Vessey, Tom Watson and Dave Brown) counted because of the abolition of the LBW rule when we’re bowling, and this enabled Hillingdon to edge past the total to steal the win. However, we did secure the maximum bonus points so despite Hayes winning we still have a 17 point advantage at the top of the table.

With 5 regular 2’s playing for the ones this week, the visit of Farnham Common was always going to be a difficult task for the 2nd XI. A 59 from Ian Gilmour plus other useful contributions got us to 174-5 off our 40 overs. Unfortunately with an opener scoring 101 (despite being dropped several times) we lost in 33 overs.

There was no Sunday fixture this week.

Next week the 1st XI host Tring Park and the 2nd XI travel to Kew. At present there is no Sunday match scheduled, but if there is enough availability we’ll attempt to get a fixture.
