The 1s lost at home against table topping High Wycombe. The visitors scored 300 and a valiant effort, not least by Stef Bartlett who compiled 94 (his 7th 50+ score in a row), saw Chenies come up 53 runs short.
The 2nd XI team travelled to Phoenix Cricket Club. We lost the toss and had to bat first on a difficult pitch. We only managed to score a little over 20 runs in the first 10 overs showing how difficult it was to bat first on this wicket. By the end of our innings, we posted a total of 161 runs, clearly 40-50 runs short for us to be competitive. Mark and Max started our bowling attack. Emily took an amazing catch in the covers to get rid of their opening batsman. However, after that initial success, we found it hard to get enough breakthroughs. Shayna celebrated her first wicket in adult cricket making her debut, but ultimately, we lost the match with 9 overs to spare. Next week's game against Stoke Green is at home and is crucial. We need to win this game to lift us away from the relegation zone.
The 3rd XI were at Chesham Bois playing Chesham 5s. The home side amassed 267 but Chenies could only manage 178 in reply.
Over to Luke: This Sundays weekly ramblings report on our brilliant game against the Uxbridge Casuals CC! The game saw the return of a great many things! For the first time since 2019 we had a tea lady putting in the graft so that we could all enjoy a prepared tea on a Sunday. It was absolutely delightful! No one will be surprised to learn that Mrs Marsden employed her good friends over at Waitrose to help curate what was an absolute classic. Battenbergs, many sandos, mini cornish pasties, coffee & walnut cake, party rings - the list goes on!!! The only less successful part of the spread were the grapes and tomatoes, which went largely untouched! My bad luck with the tossing continued this week, as those dossers stuck themselves into bat and proceeded to hit many runs, more than we were ever going to hit! Some dosser named Waqas decided it prudent to nail 109 from 54 balls, repeatedly losing the ball into the horse field and making us go fetch. Mercifully, past him they weren’t particularly good - but the damage had already been done. Highlights of our bowling innings included Mattie Brown’s return to bowling seam! Unfortunately, his I must say very commendable efforts were in vain; going at 8s in his 7 overs without a wicket. Despite a slim return, I thought it was a top effort. Much like Rocky Flintoff, he’s just never going to be as good as his dad is he! Fred’s return from injury, playing himself into the Sunday team was very successful indeed, nailing 2 excellent wickets going at 4s. The first of which just perfectly nicked the offside bail in the most gorgeous way - making a satisfying clink. Aaryan continued his fine form on Sundays, bowling 6 overs for 2 wickets - including a gut-wrenching c&b which was much less caught than swallowed by his stomach. I’m sure it hurt him much more than it would myself, as he has significantly less padding in that particular region!!! Aron Banks took a well deserved wicket, as well as Sheron and Brian’s customary Sunday scalp each. My personal highlight however of the first innings was an outstanding catch AND celebration by Wasim Fazel. His celebration was nothing short of triumphant and emphatic, hop-skipping-and-jumping like Mohammed Siraj!!! Much more gracious than Mr Siraj though I would say! Wasim’s return to cricket had been long awaited by us all, and I’m so happy that this was the perfect fixture to stage his return. The whole Fazel family was there to watch what was such a lovely moment for us all, and I look forward to him going from strength to strength personally, and continuing to populate my Sunday XI with his cricketing kids! After our tea, we went out for a bat. It started incredibly disappointingly, as the skipper perished to his own idiocy. Dismissed by the same man who dropped a ton on his head in the first innings, that was a real blow. However, it was only up from there!!! Mr Moffit chewed like a cow in an overgrown field, and AJ and Mattie tucked into 18 each. The 2 absolute standout performances of the day came from Pete and Brian, as Pete notched his 2nd 50 of the season, and second this season against Uxbridge including 10 boundaries (up the short boundary), and Brian falling just 3 short to notch a red-inked 47 runs for himself including 6 boundaries. Fred also cemented his place as MOTM with a useful and cool 17 runs not out. Not a bad return from injury eh! In the end, Uxbridge’s total was just too much for us, and they came out on top by 97 runs. We fought hard especially towards the end of our batting innings, and I felt that everyone really played for each other and in great spirits. Maybe that was just because of the lunch!
Also on Sunday the Women travelled to Slough where the home side won the toss and decided to have a bat. A strengthened line up broadly failed to fire other than their no. 4 who needed a bit of luck to settle in, but once she had, scored a century to take Slough to 236-9 from their 35 overs. The whole bowling attack was effective with 3 wickets from Emily Brown and 2 each for Shayna Patel and Aemelia Hargreaves ensuring that the slough innings did not get away from us. The home side also had a strong bowling attack and while they didn’t take wickets, they stopped the flow of runs. A partnership of 63 between Twisha Pande and Emily Brown was the mainstay of our innings. Twisha feel for 26 but Emily finished the innings with 63* and Chenies had scored 162-5.
Next week the 1st XI travel to Chalfont St Peter, the 2nd XI host Stoke Green 4s at the CCG and the 3rd XI host Cookham Dean. The Sunday XI have a game at home against Stage CC and the Women 1st XI visit Ballinger.

An appeal for further help to run the club
Our wonderful club has seen unprecedented growth over the past few years. Credit goes to everyone at the club for facilitating this, but special credit goes to the management committee for working so hard to develop and grow the club.
The downside to this is that the workload upon the committee has also grown such that it is no longer possible for our officials to cope and run the club efficiently or effectively.
We are therefore appealing for members to come forward to help.
The first appeal is for someone to take up the position of Sponsorship Manager: Sponsorship is a significant yet untapped opportunity for funding at our club. We are looking for someone to manage and nurture our existing sponsors, and to proactively work to develop new sponsorship partnerships. The role could easily be shared among 2 or 3 people. If you are interested please speak to Dave Brown or Simon Hargreaves.
Our mantra is ‘many hands make light work’ and we are looking for 2, 3 or 4 people in each of the following areas to form a small team working with the committee member responsible for that area. None of these are committee positions so you don’t have to worry about coming along to meetings; all we’re asking is to get involved and help out in a way that suits you:
Area | Committee Member | No. People required |
Website / Membership | Dave Brown | 2-3 |
BFN & Events, plus planning for the club’s 150th Anniversary | Rohin Modasia | 3-4 |
Funding / Grants | Nick Walker | 2-3 |
Our bar is going from strength to strength under the stewardship of Mick French. But he can’t be there all the time and if we are going to open more frequently with publicised hours then we’ll need volunteers to take on shifts behind the bar. If you’re interested in joining a group of volunteers who could take on shifts occasionally then please contact Mick (mickbeernut@gmail.com / 07771 866370)
