All the latest news from around the club

On Saturday, Chenies welcomed Chalfont St Peter to the CCG. Chenies lost the toss and were put into bat. Alex Martin and Steffan Bartlett batted well at the top of the order, achieving an opening partnership of 109 before Alex fell for 63. Roshan Dias came in at number 3 and scored a quickfire 50 off 39 balls. Steffan Bartlett continued to bat well, scoring his first century of the season before falling on 109. Chenies ended the innings on 269/5 off their 52 overs. Chenies struggled with the ball, only taking two wickets in the defence of their score, these going to Tom Horsburgh and Roshan Dias. Chalfont St Peter won the game by 8 wickets with 4 overs to spare.

The 2nd XI travelled to Boyne Hill, with only one outcome in mind, a win. After losing the toss, Chenies were asked to bat on what looked like a challenging wicket to bat aggressively. This was evident from the outset, with a couple of early dismissals leaving us 8 for 2 after 5 overs. A good partnership between Stuart Silk and Ian Gilmour (54) helped steady things. After another cluster of wickets fell and a brief but quick-fire innings from Truptesh Bhalson (22), two stalwarts of the club joined each other at the crease with the innings hanging in the balance at 107/5 from 20 overs. Brian Shipley and Max Higginbotham took it upon themselves to restore that balance and then some. The two batted the next 20 overs, taking full advantage of some short bowling to access the boundary at will. When the dust settled, the pair had put on 116 runs, with Max not out on 68 and Brian not out on 37. Chenies has a decent total of 223 to defend and felt confident with their bowling attack. After the first few overs, it was evident the Boyne Hill left hand opening bat did not read the script and went on the attack targeting the short boundary. Wickets were falling steadily around him, but his wicket was the key to unlocking the win. The trap was set and with Raj Thakkar bowling away swing he holed out to Rahul Ghalot who held onto a good catch in the deep at backward square for 74. Some further sharp outfield catches followed and wickets tumbled leaving the home team 33 runs short. Pick of the bowlers was Brian with 3/27, Rahul with 3/24 and Raj with 2 wickets.

With carnival music playing in the background and spectators watching throughout the day, the 3rd XI played alongside the Thames in Marlow on a picturesque ground. Stoke Green won the toss and their openers started aggressively and elegantly until Dharmendra stemmed the flow of runs with consecutive wickets (3 for 43), aided by smart catches from Tushaar at point. Naveen complemented Dharmendra with an impressive display of swing bowling but was incredibly unlucky not to take a wicket despite bowling his entire spell in one go. Two Stoke Green middle order batsmen capitalized on the batting-friendly conditions and fast outfield, forming a crucial 100+ partnership in the middle overs by chancing their arms. Harsh excelled at picking up regular wickets (4 for 52), but some loose fielding and dropped catches helped the home side achieve a total 245. The Chenies' innings began steadily, but a mix-up in running between the wickets broke a promising opening partnership between Tushar and Harsh. Despite several batsmen getting starts, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Gaurav was a standout in the middle order with a smartly constructed 43, while Ashish added a steady 28 runs in the lower order, bringing some respectability to the chase. It was a hard-fought match that could have gone either way, but it was not meant to be for the Chenies on this particular day.

On Sunday the Sunday XI took on Uxbridge Casuals at the CCG. Chenies won the toss and decided to bowl first. Uxbridge scored 223-8 which proved too big a chase for Chenies who were bowled out for 124 with Roshan Dias top scoring with 41.

Next week the 1st XI travel to Farnham Common, the 2nd XI host Hayes 4s and the 3rd XI are at home against Gerrards Cross 4s. On Sunday the Women travel to Crowthorne and Crownwood and the Sunday XI have a home game against Outlaws.

Colts Day this year will take place on Sunday 15th September and it is hoped most of you will be in attendance to celebrate yet another a great season of Colts cricket at Chenies & Latimer. Arrangements for the day are still to be finalised but below FYI, is the outline timetable and proposed format for the day.

1000hrs – The day will start with a series of windball and/or Incrediball games for U6 to U9 mixed age groups. The make up of the teams and format of play will be determined by the number of players taking part but with up to 4 pitches available, it is hoped that each team should get to play 2 games and if time permits, will include a game against the parents.

1300hrs – Presentation of End of Season Awards. It is hoped that this start time should enable those Colts who will be involved in football/rugby etc in the morning to attend awards. In addition to the individual awards for each team, participation medals will also be presented to all of the U6 to U13 Colts.

1430hrs – So that we can involve as many players as possible, there will be a 6/8 a-side Incrediball Tournament for U10 to U15 age groups with teams comprising boys and girls of mixed age and ability. The format and make up of the teams will be determined by the numbers taking part but we expect to have 2/3 pitches available .
We anticipate the games will concluding around 1630hrs.

With regard to refreshments, in addition to the usual array of tea/coffee and cakes, the bar will be open and there will also be a BBQ as well as a selection of vegetarian options.

Finally, to ensure the day runs smoothly both from a playing and catering position, we need to know in advance the approximate numbers who will be attending also indicating if you want to take part in the matches and can you to please get back to John Campbell or your team managers no later than 7th September with numbers, also indicating if you want to take part in the matches.

I trust the foregoing clarifies arrangements for Colts Day and look forward to welcoming you all on Sunday 15th to celebrate yet another fantastic season of Colts cricket at our wonderful Club.

For a few years our bar has been in decline. In order to drive greater use of the bar and to revive the social scene at the club we have partnered with a local company called Beer Nuts (previously proprietors of the craft beer establishment in Little Chalfont). They will be supplying beer to the club and sorting out our beer delivery system to ensure that we can avail ourselves of some quality beer. There will also be events and longer opening hours, especially on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Chenies 6-aside cricket tournament is confirmed for Sunday 25th August. Its an intra-club tournament and has been a great success over the past 2 years. We are hoping for a BBQ and some live music to go with the cricket. Please can you respond to Pitchero and/or let Alex Walker know if you can make it. Would be great to have as many players as possible
An intra club Fantasy Cricket game has been set up by Alex Walker. These are great fun – you just pick a team of 6 from the club’s players and see how their points rack up for your team based upon performances. Entry is just £5. Go to http://chenies-latimer.fantasyclubcricket.co.uk/. The prices of players are based SOLELY off of last year’s performance in league games , irrespective of which team you are in. This means there are some bargains. Player prices will change each week based on form and anyone not in the database yet will be added automatically once they play a league game.
