A Royal Masterclass! 5 wicket haul for Ateeq as Chenies grind out a win in their season opener.

With Windsor Castle in all it's elegance, Chenies won the toss and elected to bat in the early summer sun. With the soul intention of keeping wickets in hand, Nick and Brian saw off the first 8 overs before Nick was caught behind at first slip for 13 with Brian following shortly after playing on to his stumps for 5. A much needed partnership then followed with Bill Mead providing anchor to a flourishing 37 from Ateeq before the latter was bowled with the score on 73. Bill was then out for 20 which paved the way for Nabeel Ahmed to come to the crease. An exhibition of clearing the boundary with successive balls, on multiple occasions was then provided by Nabeel even when a couple of wickets fell around him. Within a flash the score had moved on to 163-7 and Nabeel's fireworks came to a close when he was caught in the deep for 63. Datchet then wrapped up the final few wickets to leave Chenies with a score of 175 all out.
With Datchet having plenty of overs to play with, we knew we had to keep things tight early on and frustrate Datchet's players in to making mistakes. It just so happens that we are able to call on the likes of Zia and Martin who are both masters of the art of frustration! Although we did not pick up our first wicket until the score was at 50, both opening batsmen were made to work for every single run at a slow rate. Ateeq replaced Zia at one end and Nabeel gave Martin a rest at the other. We felt we had to start forcing the issue a little more and Nabeel's pace provided that with Ateeq proving extremely difficult to score off at the other end.
After we picked up the first wicket, we then continued to take wickets on a regular basis, crucially not allowing Datchet to form any real partnership. We finally removed Arjun Ghattaura for 65 after nullifying his only one real shot and having him caught out in that very area. Ateeq showcased a masterclass in tight bowling, with multiple variations, which proved way too much to deal with for the Datchet batsmen. We finally bowled Datchet out for 137 with Ateeq finishing with impressive figures of 5-42 off 19 overs, Nabeel 3-57 and Brian 2-3.
A great opening win for Chenies which saw us have to show some real resolve in the field to get the job done. On another day, a couple of dropped catches could have been taken and things would have been wrapped up even earlier. Plenty to build on moving forwards and if we can start creeping above 200 more often than not with the bat, not many teams will fancy there chances against this bowling attack!
