Wides and Rain. Late Afternoon rain leaves the match abandoned at Tea.

The widely expected rain arrived mid afternoon and then became heavier through tea to leave both teams with no option but to abandon the match.
Chenies won the toss and chose to field with one eye on the weather. We expected difficult batting conditions and interruptions in play during the first innings which turned out not to be the case.
Martin opened from one end keeping things very tight and only conceding under 3 an over from his 8, with Zia at the opposite end. We had a couple of opportunities off of Martin's bowling with a thin edge getting between Nick Holden and Mike Pickard at keeper and 1st slip. Annoyingly this happening just after Nick came up to the stumps.
Anees and Dave Brown then came into the attack with Dave picking up a couple of wickets with one in quite a fortuitous fashion after being nailed by a pull shot only for it to fly straight into Anees' hands on the 45. Dave was given a rest after having his patience tested one too many times by one particular umpire, with one too many wides being called from nowhere.
Needing to find a few more wickets from somewhere we turned to spin with Brian and Waqas. It took Brian a couple of overs to find his line and length and after this he bowled in some great areas and ended up with figures of 4-25 off 11 overs. Waqas bowled well at the other end and will grow with confidence the more he bowls this season. Unfortunately the rain started to set in and without ever really becoming hard enough to halt play, it was still making conditions difficult with the wet ball.
After having Tring at around 150-6 we felt a little aggrieved when we came off the field with them having managed to post 217. In hindsight we were perhaps a little too attacking with our field placements when chasing those final wickets and this allowed the lower order batsman to be aggressive with anything full and wide. With that said, had the rain held off I feel we had more than enough to chase those runs down and then we could have been looking at yet another win.
Somehow every other fixture in our league was completed dropping us down to 4th in the table. Unfortunately this is the nature of cricket in England! These things will even themselves out over the length of the season and with availability becoming ever better for all three teams in the next week or two we should look to pull ourselves up into them top three places and in the hunt for promotion.
Next up, Farnham 4's at home!
