Chenies U13 Girls end season winning the Lady Taverners Cup!

The Lady Taverners U13 Super 8's Tournament takes place across the UK during July. This year in Buckinghamshire it was hosted by Ballinger CC and there were three teams competing, Ballinger, Chenies and Dinton. Each team would play each other, with the winners claiming Gold Medals and Tournament Trophy.
The format was Eight a Side with 8 Overs, maximum 2 Overs and retire at 20 Runs.
The opening match between Chenies and Ballinger proved to be the most important with just 1 nail biting run between the teams! Chenies had opened the Batting with Amelia and Youie who both retired at 22 and 20 respectively. Emma scored 3 before being Bowled by a superb Spinner from Ballinger's Claire. Caitlin (12) and Poppy L (2) were both Not Out. 59 off the bat plus 27 Extras gave a Total of 86 for 1.
Ballinger gave a strong response with 2 of their Girls also retiring. But Chenies did take a few wickets due to some exceptional fielding and strong Wicket Keeping from Youie giving us 4 Run Outs, two in Louisa's Over 7 and two in the last Over Bowled by Caitlin. Ballinger total was 85 for 4. Phew!
Ballinger then played Dinton and proved themselves the stronger team with a relatively easy win.
Chenies Girls then changed the batting order and put Caitlin and Poppy L in as openers. Caitlin called for a tight second Run and didn't quite make it being Run Out for 5. Poppy stayed and was Not Out on 18 with Amelia retiring again on 22. Louisa was also Not Out on 4. Total was 83 for 1.
The Bowling Order was also changed with Wicket Keeper Youie taking the first Over and collecting her first Wicket, Caught and Bowled! Emma Bowled the next Over with a second Wicket Caught Caitlin. Caitlin was next with a Stumping for Youie. Jasmine, Madi and Louisa Bowled the next 3 Overs with the next Wicket falling for Amelia in Over 7. Poppy L took the last Over and another Wicket!
Final score was 50 for 5.
Having won 2 matches Chenies U13 Girls were presented with their Gold Medals and Trophy!
I was amazingly proud of Chenies Girls who played the tournament with both skill and maturity. The first match was hard fought, competitive and played to the last ball, they might have lost their nerve, but they didn't and they supported each other to the end! The second match they played showing their Spirit of Cricket throughout. They knew they were the stronger team so played the game to give all players the best chance to shine on both sides. The victory was sweet, but it was the team spirit that won overall!
Congratulations to 8 exceptional young cricket players!
Roll on next season who knows where they can go!
